Diploma in ECG Technology (ECG)

Course Description

? Course Description:

The Diploma in ECG Technology is a 2-year paramedical diploma course that provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on training in Electrocardiography (ECG), which is a key diagnostic procedure in the medical field. This course prepares students to become skilled ECG Technicians, capable of assisting physicians in diagnosing heart-related conditions using ECG and related technologies.

The program covers topics such as cardiac anatomy & physiology, electrical conduction of the heart, types of ECG (resting, stress, Holter), arrhythmia detection, and emergency cardiac care. Students will also be trained in operating ECG machines, placing electrodes accurately, maintaining patient safety, and handling ECG data with accuracy.

The course includes theoretical study, hands-on practicals, and internship training in hospitals or diagnostic labs to ensure real-world experience.

? Objectives of the Course:

  • To develop thorough understanding of the cardiac system and ECG principles

  • To train students in operating ECG and cardiac monitoring equipment

  • To recognize abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and other cardiac issues

  • To enable students to assist in ICU/CCU and emergency units

  • To promote professionalism, patient care, and ethical healthcare practices

? Duration:

2 Years (4 Semesters)

? Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum Qualification: 10th or 12th Pass (Science preferred)

  • Age: 17 years and above

  • Basic communication and observation skills recommended

? Core Subjects Covered:

  • Anatomy & Physiology of the Heart

  • Basics and Advanced Electrocardiography

  • Cardiac Pharmacology (Basic)

  • Arrhythmia Recognition

  • ECG Machine Operation & Maintenance

  • ICU/CCU Monitoring Techniques

  • Medical Ethics, Record Keeping & Communication

  • Clinical Internship / Hospital Posting

    ? Career Opportunities:

After successful completion of the course, students can work as:

    • ECG Technician in hospitals and clinics

    • Cardiology Lab Assistant

    • ICU/CCU Technician (Monitoring Roles)

    • Emergency Care Assistant (Cardiac Focused)

    • Diagnostic centers, mobile ECG units, or private practice support staff

    • Pathway to advanced study: B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology, Paramedical Degrees
